Beaded Sheath and Knife
Connie Oar made this sheath and did the beadwork. It has long fringe that is hand twisted. The sheath is just over 8 “ long.
The knife is a Russel Green River Works knife. J. Russel & Co. started making the knives in 1838. The knives were shipped by mules in bundles without handles. The new owner put his own home made handle on the knife. These knives are made from very good strong steel. It sharpens to a sharp edge.
It was a favorite knife of immigrants, fur trappers, Buffalo hunters, miners, Indians, settlers and fur trappers.
There is a belt loop on the back of the sheath. Jack Oar made the inner leather sheath. Tom Oar did the brain tanning of the deer skin. The back of the sheath is signed by Tom Oar, Jack Oar and Connie Oar.
